An incense offering ceremony to commemorate the 115th birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Phạm Văn Đồng was hosted on March 1 by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai province.
During the event taking place at the late PM’s memorial site located in the province’s Mo Duc district, Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee Bùi Thị Quỳnh Vân and other local officials solemnly lit incense and expressed deep gratitude to PM Phạm Văn Đồng for his great contributions to the cause of the struggle for national independence and reunification.
Late PM Phạm Văn Đồng was born on March 1, 1906 in Mo Duc district’s Duc Tan commune.
He joined the revolutionary youth movement in Hanoi in 1924 and then became an excellent disciple and close comrade of President Hồ Chí Minh.
He was appointed as the Finance Minister of the Government of the new Democratic Republic of Vietnam after the August Revolution, and elected as a deputy of the first National Assembly.
In September 1954, Phạm Văn Đồng was assigned to concurrently hold the positions of the Deputy PM, Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations.
He was appointed as the PM by the National Assembly in September 1955 and continued to be entrusted with the post at the third National Party Congress five years later.
He passed away in 2000.
