Inauguration of bridge built with Buddhist support in Ben Tre

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Committee in Ben Tre province in collaboration with local authorities held on September 28 a ceremony for inaugurating a bridge in Phuoc My Trung commune of the province’s Mo Cay Bac district.  

Present at the event included Most Venerable Member of the VBS’s Central Discernment Council Thích Như Niệm, Venerable Chief of the VBS’s Office cum Chairman of the VBS’s Social and Charitable Board in Ben Tre Thích Trí Thuận, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Văn Đức, and large numbers of Buddhist dignitaries and representatives of local authorities.

As reported, the inaugurated bridge named Phuoc Ly with 14 meters high and 3.5 meters wide connects two residential areas in Phuoc Ly hamlet; and lay Buddhist Trương Gia Quỳnh from District 2 of Ho Chi Minh city has donated 100 million VND, and local people have contributed working days valued at 10 million VND, for completing the bridge.

Phuoc Ly is the fourth bridge presented to Ben Tre province by Phap Hoa pagoda located in Ho Chi Minh city’s Phu Nhuan district, and the seventh construction project in the province sponsored by Most Venerable Abbot of the pagoda Thích Như Niệm in 2020.

During the inaugurating ceremony, Most Venerable Thích Như Niệm presented 40 gift sets, each worth 500.000 VND and containing 20 kilogram rice, sugar, noodle and 200.000 in cash, to local people in the province.
