Hoa Hao Buddhist followers in An Giang actively engage in social, charity activities

An Giang province is home to about 924.935 Hoa Hao Buddhist followers with 11 worshipping places.

Being an indigenous religion and following the motto “for Dharma, for the Nation”, Hoa Hao Buddhist communities in An Giang have actively participated in social, charitable activities over the past years.

According to a report in 2016 of the Church’s social-charity Board, Hoa Hao Buddhists have conducted many social and charitable activities in the fields health, education and social welfare.

The Church’s followers have contributed about 200 VND million for free distributions of medicines and eye operations for the poor; purchase of six more specialized vehicles for transferring patients, donation of 499 units of blood and process of 3,698 tons of herbal.

In the field of education, 211,740 notebooks and 46 bikes have been presented to poor students and provided 11,100 meals for students during examination season. Moreover, charity canteens in district of Thoai Son and An Phu, Long Xuyen City’ My Long Ward and Chau Thanh district have provided more than 40,000 charitable meals with a total value of nearly 4 VND billion.

In addition, the Representative Committee of Hoa Hao Buddhism in the province in collaboration with provincial Fatherland Front Committee also donated 10,265 gift sets to the poor for Tet festival 2016 and built more than 1,500 charitable houses and 226 solidarity houses.
