Ho Chi Minh city highly values the Catholics’ contributions

On April 29, Mr. Lê Thanh Hải, Secretary of Ho Chi Minh city’s Party Committee received Archbishop Bùi Văn Đọc, Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh city who paid a courtesy visit on occasion of officially taking the new position. 

On behalf of Ho Chi Minh city’s Party Committee, Secretary Lê Thanh Hải congratulated Archibishop Bùi Văn Đọc for holding the important position of Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh city

At the meeting, Secretary Lê Thanh Hải briefed socio - economic situation in the city. In 2013 and early 2014, despite negative impacts from the financial crisis and economic downturn worldwide, the city still achieved good economic results (GDP in the city has increased by 7.7%; social development investment capital increased by 2%; revenues rose 16.1% against the same period last year; creating 69,800 jobs), political stability and social order maintained.

Comprehensive results achieved in the city are thanks to the great contributions by the people, especially the pratical contribution by Catholics in charitable activities, and programs for “All - people unity to build cultural life in residential areas” and sustainable poverty reduction.

Secretary Mr. Lê Thanh Hải highly appreciated the contributions of Cardinal Phạm Minh Mẫn, Catholic dignitaries, clergies and believers in building and developing the city and hoped that Archbishop Bùi Văn Đọc in his new position, responsibility and prestige will continue making contributions to the development of the city, encouraging Catholics to actively participate in the patriotic emulation movements, helping build the great national unity bloc.
