Herbal medicines planting team of Hoa Hao Buddhist Church in Dong Thap – Reliable address for patients

The traditional medicines team of the Hoa Hao Buddhist management board in Long Khanh B commune, Hong Ngu district, Dong Thap province is well-known for annually offering hundreds of tons of traditional medicines to patients from Dong Thap and nearby provinces, free of charge.  

The team has been established for nearly 20 years, and currently has 35 members. Land used the team for planting herbal medicines was 400,000m2, of which 250,000m2 has been borrowed from local Hoa Hao Buddhist households, the rest was rented land (150,000m2).

Each, the traditional medicines team provides 300 tons of free fresh herbal medicines and over 100 tons of free dry medicines to charity clinics in Dong Thap and neighboring provinces of An Giang, Tay Ninh, Ben Tre and Can Tho City, etc.

In response to the charity work of the traditional medicines planting team, many people have collected and sent precious herbal plants to the group for processing.

In addition, the Long Khanh B commune Hoa Hao Buddhist management board has also launched other social-charitable programs, serving communities’ interests. Especiallly, the Hoa Hao Buddhist management board has successfully raised funds for buying two professional cars used for transferring patients.

For the last eight months of 2020, the social-charitable activities by Hoa Hao Buddhists in Long Khanh B commune has reached the total value over six billion VND. Specifically, the traditional medicine planting team has presented 275 tons of fresh herbal medicines to Dong Thap and neighboring provinces (worth over 3 billion VND); the traditional medicine collection team has collected 55 tons of herbal medicines (valued at 714 million VND); the patient transferring team has freely transferred 145 patients to hospitals in provinces and Ho Chi Minh City (valued at 49 million VND).

Under the leadership of the Hoa Hao Buddhist management board, Hoa Hao Buddhists in Long Khanh B commune this year have presented 62 tons of rice to poor families and 4,500 packs of herbal medicines to patients, offered free health checks using traditional method for 1,000 patients, built three charity houses for disadvantage families, and freely sent 4,000m3 of fresh water to help people facing saltwater intrusion in Ben Tre province’s districts, etc.

Regarding to the Covid-19 pandemic, Hoa Hao Buddhists in Long Khanh B commune, have presented 10,000 facemasks, seven tons of rice and 200 noodle boxes to most affected people in Long Khanh B and neighboring communes.
