The event saw the presence of Priest Chairman of the CSVC in the city Anthony Mary Dương Phú Oanh, officials from the city municipal authorities, representatives from outstanding Catholic parishes, and typical Catholics in the city.

As reported at the meeting, under the CSCV’s guidance and encouragement, Catholics in the city have proactively participated in patriotic movements launched by Hanoi municipal authorities, contributing to improve the material and spiritual life in the city.

In response to the campaign for rural development, Catholics in the city have voluntarily donated land to expand the rural roads. Typically, 40 Catholic households in Dai Bang Catholic community in Dong Anh district have donated over 2,000m2 of land; Catholics in Kieu Moc Catholic community in Ba Vi district donated 1,400 m2 of land and thousand of working days.

In addition, Catholics in the city also contributed over VND 10 billion to funds for the poor and victims of natural calamities.

Presenting memorial medals to Catholic individuals

On the occasion, the CSVC presented memorial medals to 35 Catholic individuals for their outstanding achievements. Twenty-nine individuals were received certificates of merit for practical contributions to the city development by the city People’s Committee.

Hanoi city currently has 491 Catholic communities and parishes with over 190,000 members (accounting for 3% the city population) and 406 Catholic worshipping places, living in 337 out of 584 communes and wards in the city./.
