As part of a program to seek UNESCO recognition of the Mother Goddesses worship as an intangible cultural heritage of humankind, Hanoi City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a Mother Goddess worship festival from 25th to 28th, October 2014 in Luu Phai temple (Luu Phai village, Ngu Hiep commune, Thanh Tri, Hanoi).
Attending the festival were Mr. Nguyễn Khắc Lợi, Vice-Director of Hanoi City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Prof. Ngô Đức Thịnh, Director of Viet Nam Belief Culture Research and Preservation Centre, Mr. Dương Văn Khá, Chief of the Office under the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, representatives from the local authorities, mediums and practitioners of Mother Goddess worship and a large number of people in the locality.
The festival aimed to enhance public awareness and understanding about the cultural values of the country. It’s also an opportunity for practitioners of the worship of Mother Goddesses in Hanoi to meet and exchange, contributing to promote their fellowship and glorify values of the Mother Goddess worship.
The Mother Goddess worship is one of 33 national intangible cultural heritages recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, so this festival created an opportunity for researchers and state officials working on cultural and belief-related affairs to deeply understand values of the Mother Goddess worship, contributing to preserve and promote the national culture.
