Ha Tinh provincial VBS Executive Committee reviews six-month Buddhist affairs

Ha Tinh provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee reviewed its performance in the first six months and mapped out plans for the last six months of 2016 at a conference held on July 9 at Cam Son Pagoda.

Attending the event included Most Venerable Vice Chairman of the VBS Executive Council cum Chairman of the provincial VBS Executive Committee Thích Bảo Nghiêm, and large numbers of Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the province. Representatives of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee’s Ethnic-Religious Board also joint Buddhists at the conference.

As reported at the reviewing conference, Ha Tinh province currently has 104 operative Buddhist pagodas. In the first six months of 2016, the provincial VBS Executive Committee appointed three abbots and organized the summer retreat course for 44 monks. The provincial VBS’s Committee for Social Charity has also encouraged local Buddhists and donors to contribute over VND 1.3 billion for assisting disadvantaged families and poor coastal people affected by the recent marine pollution.

During the event, the provincial VBS Executive Committee approved plans for the district-level Buddhist Congress in 2016-2020 period and the 35th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.
