Ha Giang province: Buddha’s Birthday festival and casting of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva statue at Quan Am pagoda

Quan Am pagoda in the provincial city of Ha Giang held a solemnly ceremony on June 6 to celebrate the Buddha’s Birthday 2015 (B.E. 2559) and start the casting of an Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva statue.
Attending the ceremony were Most Venerable Vice President of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu and Most Venerable Chairman of Ha Giang provincial VBS Executive Committee Thích Gia Quang, Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns and followers in the locality.
Distinguished guests at the event included Deputy Minister of Home Affairs cum Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Phạm Dũng, Deputy Secretary of Ha Giang provincial Party Committee cum Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Đàm Văn Bông and local authorities’ representatives.
Speaking at the ceremony, GCRA Chairman Phạm Dũng stated that the Vietnamese Party and State always respect and guarantee the right to freedom of religion for citizens. He also acknowledged practical contributions made by the provincial VBS Executive Committee to movements for hunger eradication and poverty reduction, contributing to the socio-economic development, social security and order in the bordering and mountainous region.
During the ceremony, the Abbot of the pagoda also presented charity gifts to poor people and released pigeons to pray for peace and prosperity in the country.
