To celebrate Buddha’s birthday 2014 (B.E. 2558) as well as to positively respond to the UN Day of Vesak 2014 hosted by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, the Executive Board of Da Nang’s Vietnam Buddhist Sangha hel a grand Vesak festival from May 6th – 13th, 2014.
Compared to the previous years’ festival in Da Nang, Vesak celebration 2014 was held in larger scale. This year’s festival activities included designing and lightening of 07 lotus shapes in Han river at the passage between Song Han and Rong bridges; parade of 26 flower-covered vehicles on main streets of Da Nang city in two nights of May 11 and 12; wreath laying at city’ memorial monument for fallen soldiers; erection of a balloon gate on the main entrance to the celebration venue (Linh Ung temple, Tho Quang ward, Son Tra district); painting exhibition at An Hai temple; Lumbini open-air camping organized by Da Nang’s Buddhist Family Board. The main ceremony of Vesak celebration 2014 was solemnly held on 15th of 4th lunar month and drew attention of nearly ten thousands of people.
Apart from celebration activities, district Buddhist executive boards and Buddhist temples also conducted activities of practical humanitarian values, such as Buddhist Executive Board of Hai Chau district presenting a house worth 30 million VND, Buddhist Executive Board of Hai Chau district presenting 40 scholarships worth 60 million VND for poor and excellent pupils,…
