General meeting on Catholic contributions to national construction and defense held in Can Tho

The Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics in Can Tho city held on August 13 the 1st general meeting on national construction and defense contribution by Catholics in the city’s Cai Rang district for the 2018-2023 tenure.

The event saw the participation of Chairwoman of the municipal Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Phan Thị Hồng Nhung, representatives from the municipal committee for religious affairs, the committee for solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics in the city and Cai Rang district authorities.

The meeting discussed results of the patriotic movement of the Catholic community in the district during the 2013-2018 period. As reported, Catholic parishes in the district have contributed about VND 750 million to study promotion programs in the district and over VND 6.5 billion to social charities, including the construction of charity houses and provision of support to flood victims and disadvantaged people.

The meeting also elected nine members to the Catholic solidarity board in the district for the 2018 – 2023 tenure with Foreign Service Assistant of Cai Rang parish’s pastoral council Nguyễn Trung Hiếu selected as Head of the solidarity board.

On the same day, the 1st general meeting on national construction and defense contributions by Catholics in the city’s Co Do district for the 2018-2023 tenure was also successfully convened.

As resulted, five members for the Catholic solidarity board for the 2018 – 2023 tenure were elected with former Head of Co Do parish’s pastoral council Nguyễn Thanh Giang selected as Head of the board.
