The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in Ha Tinh province’s Thach Ha district was successfully convened its 4th general conference on August 11.

The event saw the presence of Venerable Thích Quảng Nguyên, Vice Chairman of the provincial VBS’s Executive Committee and representatives from local authorities.

The general conference of the VBS chapter in Thach Ha is the first district-level congress held Ha Tinh province. This year, due to the complicated developments of the Covid-19 epidemic, the congress was held on a small scale, and strictly complied with regulations of Ha Tinh authorities for Covid-19 epidemic prevention and control, including the restriction of religious gatherings of more than 30 people.

As reported at the event, Thach Ha district has currently 16 pagodas, 14 monks and nuns. During the past five years (2016-2021), Buddhist followers in the district have spent over five billion VND on social charities in localities.

The one-day event selected seven members of the new-term VBS Executive Board for 2022 – 2027 tenure with Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn reelected as head of the board, as well as chose members to attend the congress of the provincial VBS Chapter in the coming time.

On the occasion, several Buddhist groups and individuals of the VBS chapter in Thach Ha received certificates of merit for their outstanding contributions in Buddhist affairs from the provincial VBS Executive Committee for the period 2016-2021. The district People’s Committee also presented certificates of merit to one Buddhist group and five Buddhist individuals for their contributions in social, charitable activities in the previous term.
