On February 14, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Committee in Kien Giang province held an opening ceremony for Buddhist practices and training of all ashramas in the province.
Attending the ceremony included Most Venerable Standing Vice Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Committee Thích Huyền Thông, Most Venerable Vice Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Committee in charge of Khmer Theravada Buddhism Danh Nhuôn, and about 1,000 Buddhist monks, nuns and followers in the locality.
The event also saw the participation of Vice Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Danh Lắm and representatives of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee.

During the ceremony, Venerable Deputy Secretary cum Chief of Buddhist Chapter’s Office in Kien Giang province Thích Phước Thắng informed results of Buddhist practices and training by the local ashramas over the past year.
Venerable Vice Chairman of the provincial VBS’s Executive Committee Thích Minh Nhẫn also took the chance to highlight results of religious affairs in 2016, including the successful organization of the district-level Buddhist Congress, the celebration of the VBS’s 35th founding anniversary, the seminar on Khmer Theravada Buddhism with theme “Inheritance – Stability – Development”, as well as the contribution of over VND76 billion for social and charitable activities by Buddhists in the locality.
