On May 30-31, the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) held two seminars to gather comments on a drafting decree detailing and providing measures for the implementation of Law on Belief and Religion.
The events was co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyễn Trọng Thừa and Chief Executive Vice Chairman of the GCRA Bùi Thanh Hà, and attended by Major General Deputy Director of Department VIII, Ministry of Public Security Nguyễn Văn Lý, representatives from the ministries, central agencies, scholars and the GCRA’s departments.
As reported, the Law on Belief and Religion was adopted by the 14th National Assembly at its second session last November. The new Law, with 09 chapters and 68 articles, will officially take effect on January 1, 2018.
Overview of the seminar
The seminars focused on discussion of several articles of the draft Decree for reception and management of foreign-related donations by religious organizations and dependent religious organizations, grant of non-commercial legal entity for dependent religious organizations; dissolution of religious organizations, dependent religious organizations and religious training institutions, and guarantee of the right to use religious scriptures and express religious beliefs of an individual who is illegally arrested, held in custody, temporarily detained, charged with a criminal offence, investigated, prosecuted, brought to trial or subject to judgment enforcement, or a person taken to a rehabilitation center, etc.
