08/29/2019

The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) held on August 27 a forum on burial customs by Vietnamese.

The forum themed “Burial customs by Vietnamese - current changes and issues” saw the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Vũ Đức Đam, over 150 experts, scholars and officials tasked with cultural & social, economic, environmental and urban affairs from concerning ministries, central agencies, provinces and cities in the country.

During the forum, delegates pointed out and discussed impacts and difficulties in maintaining burial customs, especially the economic cost, burial land and environmental effects.

As one of burial practices, cremation has been praised at the event for its environmental advantages. However, to encourage this practice, incentives by state authorities for covering economic cost and land would be needed.

Speaking at the event, Deputy PM Vũ Đức Đam requested the VASS and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology jointly work to make practical and effective recommendations for improving current burial practices in the country.
