Fishermen in Ba Ria Vung Tau pray for new fishing season

02/10/2020

Binh Chau commune People’s Committee in Ba Ria Vung Tau province’s Xuyen Moc district held on February 5 a ceremony for launching the fishing season 2020.

This year, due to the impact of an acute respiratory infection caused by a new strain of Corona virus, local authorities only organized spiritual rituals, without festive activities as in previous years.

During the ceremony, the oldest fishermen prepared offerings including sticky rice, chicken, duck, cakes, wine and rice and performed traditional worshipping rituals at the local seaports and the Nam Hai whale worshipping temple.

The launching ceremony is a tradition of the local fishermen to pray for safe and successfully fishing trips.

As reported at the ceremony, Binh Chau commune currently has 531 fishing boats with a total capacity of nearly 115,000 CV. Local fishermen caught nearly 13,800 tons of aquatic products, the total cost 513 billion VND in 2019.
