First ordained permanent deacon of Catholic Church in Vietnam

Loan Ly Parish under Hue Archdiocese located in Thua Thien Hue province held on January 11 a solemn ceremony to celebrate Friar Lancome Nguyễn Danh ordained as the first permanent deacon of Vietnam Catholic Church. 

The ceremony was presided by Priest General Vicar of Hue Archdiocese Antonio Dương Quỳnh and attended by priests from Hue and neighboring dioceses.

Friar Lancome Nguyễn Danh was formally ordained as a permanent deacon during a diaconate ordainment ceremony held on December 21, 2017 for 15 friars from monasteries of Chau Son Don Duong and Thien Hoa Order of St. Benedict. The ceremony was held in Chau Son Don Duong Monastery in Da Lat city and presided by Bishop of Da Lat Caderthral Anthony Vũ Huy Chương.

Deacon Lancome Nguyễn Danh was born in 1955 and grew up and became a parishioner of Loan Ly parish. He is married and has four children. The new deacon has joint Thien Hoa Order of St. Benedict since 2002 and made perpetual vow in 2006.
