An array of activities will be held in Mu Cang Chai District, Yen Bai Province from August 29 to October 18 to celebrate ‘Tet Doc Lap’ (Independence Day) on the occasion of National Day (September 2) and a festival exploring the charm of Mu Cang Chai’s terraced fields.
According to Vice Chairwoman of the District People’s Committee Luong Thi Xuyen, this year’s events will feature some new aspects, including a Mu Cang Chai discovery marathon that will gather 100 runners, Mu Cang Chai helicopter tours, a Camping Festival and a real-scene show themed “Four seasons in Mu Cang Chai”.
‘Tet Doc Lap’, slated for August 29-September 2, will be marked with a rural market showcasing and selling local agro-forestry products as well as introducing the unique cultural and culinary values of ethnic groups in the locality.
Folk games and sporting events will also be held, alongside musical programmes entertaining visitors every Saturday evening, a Mu Cang Chai discovery marathon, and an artistic photo exhibition extolling Mu Cang Chai’s magnificent natural landscapes.
A festival praising the charming beauty of Mu Cang Chai terraced fields will last from September 12 until the end of October, including a ceremony on September 26 evening to receive a certificate recognising Mu Cang Chai terraced fields as a special national relic, an annual paragliding festival, a Camping Festival, and a real-scene show themed “Four seasons in Mu Cang Chai”.
In addition, a festival honouring the cultural value of the Khen (panpipe) of the Mong ethnic group has been scheduled with a diverse array of contents: a street show gathering more than 2,000 artisans, a Khen dance festival, and the practice of Khen making.
Visitors to Mu Cang Chai can also attend a goat fighting contest, or take part in a traditional cake making competition and pattern painting contest using beeswax, among other activities.
