Festival aims to promote southern Khmer ethnic culture

The 8th Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival of Khmer people in the southern province of Soc Trang will open on November 6-8 with the participation of 12 southern cities and provinces of Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, An Giang, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, Ca Mau, Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc, Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh.

The festival themed "Preserve and promote the cultural identity of the Khmer community in the South region - equality, solidarity, respect, integration, and development" aims to honor and preserve fine traditional values of Khmer people amongst 54 ethnic groups of Vietnam.

During the festival, various activities will be held, including a trade fair introducing high quality products and specialties of the district, traditional crafts such as brocade weaving, handicrafts, and ethnic musical instruments along with art performances, introducing typical Khmer ethnic costumes of the daily life, festival and wedding.

In addition, the 5th Ooc Om Boc festival – Ngo boat racing in the Mekong Delta region also will be held as part of the festival.
