Environment protection movement launched in Catholic community in Hanoi’s Thuong Tin district

The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF)’s Board in Thuong Tin district of Hanoi in collaboration with the district Catholic Solidarity Board launched on December 7 a movement promoting Catholics on religious engagement in environmental protection in Thuong Hien village of Ha Hoi commune.

Present at the event included Chairman of the VFF in the district Lê Tuấn Dũng, representatives from the district Catholic Solidarity Board, Catholic followers and residents in Thuong Hien village.

Thuong Hien village currently has 500 households with 147 Catholic families.

During the launching ceremony, the organization board approved a plan of practical activities promoting religious involvement in environmental protection.

Main activities include the training of skills for self-help and assisting others dealing with unusual risks such as hail, storm, cyclone, drought, etc; instruction and support for the local Catholic community and residents in taking measures for environmental protection, climate change adaptation; adopting environment-friendly lifestyles in business production and daily life; and increasing use of renewable energy, etc.

On the occasion, the VFF in the district and Ha Hoi commune presented 10 trashcans to Thuong Hien village
