The implementation of the coordinated program on environmental protection and climate change adaptation between the municipal Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) committee in Hanoi and religious organizations in the city has recorded initial positive results.
According to Dr. Vice Chairman of Hanoi city Committee for Catholic Solidarity Phạm Huy Thông, each religion may have its own teachings but the environmental protection is completely identical and becomes one of priorities for all religions. In particular, the Catholic Church and its followers have specific and supportive views for the environment protection. Especially, Pope Francis has said that the earth is the common home of all people, and many generations; and the Catholic Church decided that September 1st has been designated as the environment protection day.
After the city Committee for Catholic Solidarity signing the coordinate program on environmental protection and climate change adaptation with the city VFF. The Catholics in the city have eagerly responded to the program. So far, the district authorities and the management board of all Catholic parishes in Hanoi have also signed commitments on environmental protection.
Cam Co Catholic parish in Thuong Tin district has developed as a pilot model where Catholic followers in the parish have not only been disseminated on the environment protection and climate change adaption but also been more aware of their responsibility for cleaning up local roads, villages, churches and their houses.
Dr Phạm Huy Thông also informed that in the coming time, the Catholic Solidarity Committee in Hanoi will work with the Fatherland Front of Hanoi for improving the model and then replicate it in the whole city.
