Over the past years, Hoa Hao Buddhists and Cham and Khmer people in An Giang have made practical contributions to the education promotion in the province.
The education promotion board has been set up in pagodas of Vinh Quang (Chau Phong commune), Buu Son Ky Huong, Kim Tien and Dong Lai Buddhist monastery (Tinh Bien district) with a raised fund from 200 million VND to one billion VND per year for supporting pupils from poor families in localities.
According to Head of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Church’s executive board in Vinh Xuong commune Đoàn Văn Hổ, responding a call from local authorities, the Hoa Hao Buddhist Church’s executive board in the commune has successfully raised from 30 million to 50 million VND each year for education promotion.
The Hoa Hao Buddhist Church’s central executive committee has also established its study promotion board, and since its establishment, the education board has guided Hoa Hao Buddhist Church’s executive boards in localities to promote study and talent promotion activities.
The education promotion activities have also been promoted in Cham and Khmer communities. Khmer Buddhist dignitaries in districts of Tri Ton and Tien Bien, the provincial Islamic representative committee and the executive board in mosques have closely collaborated with local authorities to promote study encouragement work.
Head of the provincial Islamic representative committee HaJi Jacky informed that thanks to the study encouragement movement, many engineers, doctors, and technicians in Cham village currently work in local state agencies and companies at home and aboard.
