Dong Thap province: Catholic Solidarity Committee holds its congress

The fifth congress (2014-2019) of Vietnamese Catholics for construction and defense was held by Dong Thap chapter of the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics (CSVC) on Dec. 10.

The event was attended by Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Trần Thị Thái, Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Lê Hoàng Tam and 120 Catholic dignitaries and followers in the locality.

During the congress, five members of the Standing Board of the provincial CSVC were elected and Priest Nguyễn Văn Ký of Fatima parish in Thanh Binh district was selected as Chairman of the Dong Thap provincial Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics.

Speaking at the congress, Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Lê Hoàng Tam called on the Catholic Solidarity Committee to serve as a bridge between the religion and the secular life, to well perform its role as member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and to encourage Catholic organizations and individuals in the province to make practical contributions to socio-economic development and social order in the locality.

On this occasion, the Dong Thap provincial CSVC received a certificate of merit from the central CSVC, and outstanding Catholic organizations and individuals were also awarded certificates of merit from the provincial People’s Committee and provincial Fatherland Front Committee.
