On March 3-4, Dong Nai provincial authorities held a meeting to prepare for the election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and People’s Councils for 2016-2021 term.
Attending the meeting included a large number of religious dignitaries representing about 1.7 million followers in the locality.
During the meeting, participants were presented with the structure, competence, functions and roles of the National Assembly and People's Council at all levels.
Representatives from local authorities also answered the religious followers’ question relating to principles of the election, number of delegates, polling stations, eligibility of voters ...
According to Venerable Vice Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Executive Committee Thích Bửu Chánh, the meeting contributed to increase religious dignitaries’ awareness in election regulations and laws. He also affirmed that through religious gatherings, dignitaries would propagate and encourage local followers to actively participate in the upcoming NA and People’s Councils elections for 2016-2021 term.
According to Dong Nai provincial Committee for Religious Affairs, Dong Nai province is home to more than 920,000 Catholics, nearly 700,000 Buddhists and many followers of other religions including Islam and Hoa Hao Buddhism.
