Documentary about Zen Buddhism to hit local screens

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Central Committee for Information and Communications in collaboration with the Cultural Heritage Research Institute and VTC Digital have implemented a documentary project on Zen Buddhism.

In charge of the documentary project's script were Most Venerable Thích Gia Quang, Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council cum Chairman of the VBS’s Central Information and Communications; Assoc. Prof. Nguyễn Công Khanh, Director of the Cultural Heritage Research Institute; and Dr. Bùi Hữu Dược, former Director of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs’ Buddhist Affairs Department cum Deputy Director of the Cultural Heritage Research Institute.

The documentary project on Buddhist Zen launched on occasion of the 2565th Buddha’s Birthday and the 40th Founding Anniversary of the VBS (November 7, 1981-2021) aims to introduce historical values and fine traditions of Buddhism in the country.

The documentary project also introduces several oldest Buddhist relic places in Vietnam, and pagodas and worshipping places associated with historical events of Vietnamese Buddhism, as well as famous Buddhist monks who have rendered practical contributions for the development and protection of the country.

The project is structured into 9 parts, with over 100 episodes expected to be produced.

The first episode is scheduled to be broadcast at 9 p.m on May 30, 2021 on VTC1 Channel.
