Deputy PM pays homage to Most Venerable Thích Đức Phương

Deputy Prime Minister Trương Hòa Bình paid on July 7 tribute to Most Venerable Deputy Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Discernment Council Thích Đức Phương who passed away on July 1 in Hue city at the age of 85.  

Joining the delegation were Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng, Secretary of Thua Thien Hue province Party’s Committee Lê Trường Lưu and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Phan Ngọc Thọ.

Writing on the funeral book, Deputy PM Bình stated that the Most Venerable’s passing is a great loss to the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, monks and Buddhist followers both at home and abroad.

Most Venerable Thích Đức Phương was a good example of a dignitary who devotedly cared for the development of Buddhism and the nation, he also wrote.

Most Venerable Thích Đức Phương, who was former Vice Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Council cum Chairman of the Thua Thien Hue provincial VBS’s Executive Committee and member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, has made practical contributions to Buddhism and nation.

Earlier,  Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng laid the wreath sent by the State President Trần Đại Quang for paying tribute  to late Most Venerable Thích Đức Phương.

 Chairwoman of National Assembly Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân and Chairwoman of the Central Commission for Mass Mobilization Trương Thị Mai, and representatives from many ministries, sectors and localities also sent wreaths to pay last respets to the Buddhist leader.
