Deputy Prime Minister Trương Hòa Bình on October 30 led a Government delegation to visit Xuan Hoa Parish in Quang Binh province’s Quang Trach district.
Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Dương Ngọc Tấn also joint the delegation.
Deputy PM visits and presents gifts to some Catholic households in Xuan Hoa Parish
During the visit, the Deputy PM met and exchanged with Priest Head of the parish Mai Xuân Ái and local parishioners about the recent maritime environmental pollution incident caused by Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Company and its negative direct impacts laid on production and the life of Catholic believers in Xuan Hoa parish in particular, and for people in the four central provinces in general.
The Deputy PM also urged the priest and dignitaries of the parish to continue to encourage parishioners, especially those in areas affected by the maritime environmental incident, to gradually overcome current difficulties and cooperate with local authorities in the implementation of compensation for damages due to the incident to quickly stabilize their lives.
On this occasion, the Deputy PM and Government delegation also visited and presented gifts to some Catholic households stricken by the incident in the parish.
Xuan Hoa Parish under Vinh Diocese currently is home to 758 households with 3,660 people, most of which mainly earn their living by fishing.
