Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng on November 15 visited and met with Most Venerable Thích Trí Quảng, Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) at Hue Nghiem pagoda located in Thu Duc city of Ho Chi Minh city.
Accompanying the Deputy Minister included Vice Chairwoman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Thị Minh Nga.
During the visit, while extending best wishes to the Supreme Patriarch, Deputy Minister Vũ Chiến Thắng shared about preparation works for the United Nation Day of Vesak 2025 in Ho Chi Minh city.
The Deputy Minister noted that to successfully organize the 4th UN Day of Vesak in Vietnam, the Government and Ho Chi Minh City authorities would hold a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Hòa Bình for the VBS.
He highlighted that the first UN Day of Vesak in Ho Chi Minh city, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification April 30 (1975-2025) would cover cultural exchange art programs for introducing unique features national cultures.
Sharing with the guests, Supreme Patriarch Thích Trí Quảng informed about the history and tradition of Vietnamese Buddhism, stating Buddhism has accompanied the nation throughout history and made significant contributions to national development. He noted that the VBS would closely work with Ho Chi Minh city authorities to prepare featured programs of the Vesak 2025, focusing on identities of Vietnamese Buddhism and highlighting contributions of Vietnamese Buddhism to Buddhism in the world.
