Defense Ministry holds conference on mass mobilization work in religious concentrated areas

The Ministry of National Defense’s General Political Department reviewed mass mobilization work in religious localities for 2011-2016 period at a conference held on June 9.
For the past five years, units of the Defense Ministry have collaborated with other competent authorities and agencies for disseminating the State policies and laws for about six million followers of religions. The Council for Defense and Security Education at military regions, provinces and cities have closely worked with local authorities in the organization of about 600 training conferences on defense and security for over 52,000 dignitaries and deacons of religions across the country.
In addition, the Army has also consolidated and improved the work efficiency of its over 2,700 Party units, nearly 1,800 administrative bodies and more than 8,600 political-social organizations in religious localities. The Army also conducted many social charitable activities, including construction of thousands of kilometers of rural roads, newly building and repair of thousands of classrooms and health centers, construction of nearly 6,500 charitable houses, conduct of health checks and distribution of free medicines to over 450,000 patients, contribution of over VND 230 billion for poverty reduction and hunger eradication, as well as implementation of hundreds of projects worth of several trillion VND for assisting people to develop family economy, reduce poverty and eradicate hunger, improve literacy, prevent diseases, and overcome natural disasters, etc.
As reported at the conference, in the coming time, the Ministry of National Defense would focus on enhancing the professional knowledge of religious affairs for officials at all levels, and promoting exemplary roles of officials and Party members in implementation of the mass mobilization work in religious localities.
