Da Nang reviews two-year religious involvement in environmental protection.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) committee of Da Nang City has reviewed the two-year implementation of the signed coordination program promoting the religious role in environmental protection at a meeting held on August 16.

Attending the meeting included Chairwoman of the municipal VFF Committee Đặng Thị Kim Liên, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Council Lê Minh Trung and representatives of religious organizations in the city.

As reported at the event, religious organizations in Da Nang have implemented practical programs for environmental protection and climate change adaptation, including activities aimed at raising public awareness amongst religious communities and promoting clean and green residential areas.

In particular, the executive committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s chapter in the city has incorporated the dissemination of state policies and laws on environmental protection into the annual working programs, as well appealed for planting trees in local Buddhist establishments.

The Da Nang diocese has proactively responded to the coordinated program as well as the Pope Francis’s call for environmental protection and climate change adaptation. Da Nang Deanery has organized activities for protecting the planet as the common home for youth in parishes once in every two months.

The Baha’i community in the city has published a complied manual on environmental protection and climate change response distributed to all Baha’i followers in the city, and implemented regular activities for cleaning Xuan Thieu and Nam O beaches.

Other religious organizations of Caodaism and Protestantism in the city have implemented similar practical activities for enhancing public awareness on the environmental issue as well as promoting green and clean living space, both within religious worshipping facilities and public places. 

During the meeting the municipal VFF committee presented certificates of recommendation to six religious groups and four religious individuals for their outstanding contributions to the implementation of the coordinated program promoting religious engagement for environmental protection and climate change adaptation.
