No new cases of the novel coronavirus were confirmed as of April 20 morning, making it four consecutive days Vietnam has recorded no new infections of the deadly virus, according to the Ministry of Health.
Among the 268 registered cases so far, 160 returned from abroad (59.7%), and 108 (40.3%) are community infections.
There are 62,998 people currently in quarantine for health observation throughout the country. Among these, 279 people are placed into isolation at hospitals, 11,338 others are kept at concentrated quarantine facilities and the remainder are self-quarantined at home or at places of residence.
According to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, 13 cases have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once and 7 cases have tested negative for the virus twice.
Regarding the epidemic situation in Hanoi, the most affected locality in the country, with 132 cases confirmed, the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the district-level health centers on April 18 and 19 conducted more than 1,000 quick COVID-19 tests at five wholesale markets in order to assess epidemiological factors in the community.
To date, all samples have been found negative for SARS-CoV-2 virus.
The Hanoi Department of Health said that up to now, the total number of samples tested for SARS-CoV-2 virus nationwide is more than 206,000, including 73,000 from Hanoi.
The percentage of people undergoing screening tests in the capital city is 4.3 times higher than the national average. The screening and testing work has contributed to early detection of new cases and timely handling of infections, thus slowing the spread of the virus to the wider community, the department noted.
