Construction of Khmer Theravada Buddhist Institute kicks off

The construction of the Khmer Theravada Buddhist Institute in Can Tho city’s O Mon district was started at a ceremony held on March 25.

Attending the ceremony were representatives from the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Discernment Council, Executive Council and the VBS Executive Committee in the provinces of Mekong Delta.

State guests at the event included Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Lê Bá Trình and Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Tấn Hùng

According to Most Venerable Deputy Patriarch of the VBS Discernment Council cum Director of the Khmer Theravada Buddhist Institute Danh Nhưỡng, the Institute is to be built on an area of 6.7 ha of land into three phases with 19 facilities  and at a estimated cost of VND 451 billion. There will be five facilities built on an area of 1.8 ha in the first phase and these facilities are expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
