Conference on implementing work of guiding VBS to host UN Vesak celebration 2025 in Vietnam

Standing Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Hòa Bình chaired a conference on November 14 in Ho Chi Minh City for guiding the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) to host the UN Vesak Celebration 2025 in Vietnam.

At the conference

Attending the event included Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng, Vice Chairwoman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Thị Minh Nga, Most Venerable President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, and representatives from concerning ministries, central agencies and authorities in Ho Chi Minh City and several Southern provinces.

As reported at the conference, the UN Vesak Celebration 2025 would be held in Ho Chi Minh City from May 6-8, 2025 with the theme “Harmony and Inclusion for Human Dignity: Buddhist Insights for World Peace and Sustainable Development”, expected to receive about 1,000 international delegates from more than 80 countries and territories, 1,000 domestic Buddhist monastics and tens of thousands of lay Buddhists followers.

The gathering highlighted due attention and favorable conditions from the Government, concerning ministries, and central agencies and localities in order to help the VBS successfully organize the UN Vesak celebration 2025 in Vietnam.

Addresing at the conference, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Hòa Bình asked the VBS to early complete the detailed project on organizing the UN Vesak festival, and proactively implement preparations after the approved project. He also assigned the Ministry of Home Affairs to be the standing agency in the coordination work with concerning agencies and localities to develop a coordinated plan for guiding and assisting the VBS to successfully organize the UN Vesak celebration 2025 in Vietnam.

The UN Vesak Celebration 2025 is the fourth UN Buddhist event hosted in Vietnam, after the three successful celebrations in 2008, 2014 and 2019.
