The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Committee in Ba Ria – Vung Tau solemnly held on August 10 a ceremony for handing over the completion of Nui Mot pagoda in Con Dao district and approving its new abbot.
The event saw the participation of Vice Presidents of the VBS’s Executive Council Most Venerable Thích Thiện Pháp and Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Most Venerable Chairman of the provincial VBS’s Executive Committee Thích Quang Hiển, and large numbers of monks, nuns and Buddhist followers in the locality.
Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Trần Tấn Hùng, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Đặng Minh Thông and local authorities’ representatives also attended the event.
Van Son (or Nui Mot) pagoda is a cultural and historical relic of Con Dao district, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province. The reconstruction of the pagoda aimed to serve spiritual and cultural needs of local people, as well as boost tourism development of the island.
During the event, Senior Venerable Thích Trung Sơn was formally appointed as the abbot of the new pagoda.
On this occasion, Chairman of the GCRA Vũ Chiến Thắng also sent congratulations to the event.
