Coming of age worship ritual by Ede ethnic community in Phu Yen to receive national intangible cultural heritage recognition

According to a plan approved by Phu Yen provincial People’s Committee, a ceremony for receiving the national recognition of the coming of age worship ritual by the Ede ethnic group in the province as an intangible cultural heritage will be held on November 23.
The Ede ethnic community in Phu Yen province has nearly 24,824 inhabitants concentrating in districts of Song Hinh and Son Hoa. Like many other ethnic groups in the central highlands, the Ede people have a system of worshipping imprinted with a belief that the spiritual world exist in all things. So they all have worshipping rituals in important stages of life as well as in the agricultural process.

The coming of age worship ritual often featuring traditional costumes, making offering ceremonies, gong performances and traditional dances aims to pray for longevity, success and good health, as well as formally mark the maturity development of a person when he or she can shoulder certain roles in the family and the community.
