City leaders receive Archbishop of Hanoi Archdiocese

Politburo member Vương Đình Huệ, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee and Head of the city’s delegation of National Assembly deputies hosted a reception for Archbishop of the Hanoi Archdiocese Joseph Vũ Văn Thiên on November 13.  

Joining the municipal Party chief in hosting the Archbishop were Head of the municipal Party Committee’s Education and Communication Commission Nguyễn Doãn Toản, and Director of the Department of Public Security Major General Nguyễn Hải Trung.

Expressing his thanks to the Hanoi Party chief for his welcome, Archbishop of the Hanoi Archdiocese Joseph Vũ Văn Thiên congratulated Hanoi on the success of its 17th Party Congress (tenure 2020-2025).

Offering his congratulation to comrade Vương Đình Huệ on his re-election as Secretary of the municipal Party Committee (tenure 2020-2025), the archbishop expressed his belief that Hanoi would continue to fulfill all targets set for the new term cross all spheres.

He also thanked to the municipal authorities for their attention and support for the activities of the Hanoi Archdiocese in the past time, while hoping to continue receiving the local government’s assistance in the time ahead.

On behalf of the city leaders, Secretary Vương Đình Huệ affirmed that the Hanoi government will always pay attention and create favorable conditions for religious activities in the area.

He highly spoke of great contribution made by the Catholic community over the past years.

They have actively responded to emulation movements launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and joined hands to boost the city’s socio-economic development, the Party official added.

He underlined that as the year 2020 is such a challenging time, with outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and heavy rain, floods in the central region, the Catholic community together with the people nationwide has stayed united and made donations to support the victims.

The Hanoi Party chief wished the archbishop, religious dignitaries and parishioners of the Hanoi Archdiocese good health and a merry Christmas.

On the same day, Archbishop of the Hanoi Archdiocese Joseph Vũ Văn Thiên had a meeting with Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee and Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Chu Ngọc Anh.

At the meeting, Archbishop Joseph Vũ Văn Thiên congratulated the municipal Party Committee on the success of its 17th congress.

Expressing his delight at the city’s development over the past years, the archbishop pledged that the Catholic community would make more contribution to the city’s further development.

For his part, Hanoi mayor Chu Ngọc Anh appreciated the significant contribution by the archbishop, religious dignitaries and parishioners of the Hanoi Archdiocese to the growth of Hanoi over the past time, especially to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The city leader hoped that the capital city would continue to receive the support from the Hanoi Archdiocese, as well as the participation of the Catholic community in implementing its socio-economic development task.
