The 3rd “Hát văn” or Trance Singing Festival took place in Tran Phu ward, Bac Giang city from October 28-29.
The distinguished guests at the festival co-organized by the Research and Conservation of Culture and Belief Centre and the Cultural & Sport Centre included Director of the Arts & Culture Department under the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education Vũ Công Hội, representatives from the Culture, Sports and Tourism Department and the Bac Giang Municipal People’s Committee.
The festival attracted over 200 mediums, singers and artists of art troupes from all over the country including Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Hai Duong, Phu Tho, Hung Yen, Lao Cai, Thai Nguyen, Vinh Phuc, Tuyen Quang, Quang Nam and Bac Giang.
The Chầu Văn singing is part of the Mother Goddess worship, one of traditional worshipping practices in Viet Nam, and Bac Giang province is considered as the most popular locality with this worship practices, notably in temples of Suoi Mo (Luc Nam district), Nguyet Ho (Yen The district) and Tan Ninh (Bac Giang city)
Introducing traditional costumes of the worship
During the festival taking place in Tan Ninh temple, the participating mediums, singers and artists introduced traditional costumes of the worship and performed “hau dong” singing.
The festival aims to honor and promote values of the Mother Goddess worship of Vietnamese people, which was recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity in December 2016.
