Cham people celebrate Ramuwan New Year

Cham ethnic people in Binh Thuan and Ninh Thuan province on June 15 kicked off a wide range of activities to welcome their Ramuwan festival, the most important of its kind of the local Islamic community.

The festival always begins with a visit to ancestors’ graves and then each family holds ceremonies at home in commemoration of their ancestors. 

The annual festival lasts one month with many traditional rituals and activities such as worshipping ceremonies, cleaning and decorations of ancestral graves, visit to pagodas for peace prayers. 

Binh Thuan province is home to over 41,000 Cham ethnic people, of whom 15,000 are Muslims.
