Cham Brahmins in Ninh Thuan joyfully celebrate Kate Festival

Kate Festival 2020 of Cham ethnic people in the central province of Ninh Thuan was held on October 16-18 (from the 1st to the 3rd of the 7th month in Cham calendar).    

For Cham Brahmins to enjoy their important cultural and spiritual event, the provincial government of Ninh Thuan has instructed concerning department and agencies to create favorable conditions for local Cham people to celebrate the festival at temples and towers, as well as organize cultural activities and folk games during the festival.

The provincial authorities also sent delegations to join celebrations with Cham ethnic people at three temple and tower sites, and meet with the council of Brahmin dignitaries and prestigious Brahmins in the locality.

During the event, leaders of Ninh Thuan province extended their greetings to the Cham ethnic community on their traditional festival, expressing their belief that Cham people will continue joining hands to successfully realise provincial socio-economic development goals.

The local officials also asked Cham Brahmins to well preserve and promote fine and unique values of Kate Festival as well as cultural traditions of Cham ethnic community in Ninh Thuan.

The Kate Festival is one of the biggest festivals in Vietnam. It was recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2017.
