Central VBS Cultural Committee reviews its annual performance

The Cultural Affairs Committee under the Central Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) reviewed its performance 2014 at a conference held on Jan. 14 in Yen Phu pagoda (Hanoi).

Attending the year-end conference were Most Venerable Thích Trung Hậu, the Committee’s Chairman; Most Venerable Thích Hải Ấn, the Committee’s Standing Vice Chairman; and Venerables, monks, nuns and Buddhist members of the Central VBS cultural committee.

Guests to the year-end event included Director of Buddhist Affair Department under the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Bùi Hữu Dược; Director of Institute for Religious Studies Dr. Nguyễn Quốc Tuấn; Hanoi Religious Committee Chairman Lê Văn Cửu; Director of Center for Preservation of Religious Cultural Heritage Trần Khánh Dư; and representatives from relevant central and local agencies.

According to the conference report, during 2014 the central VBS cultural committee actively took part in and made important contributions to the successful organization of the UN Vesak 2014 held in Bai Dinh pagoda. The Committee also joint in a wide range of cultural activities, including Buddhist book exhibitions, the compiling of the book on Buddhism in provinces and cities, the candle virgin for the country’s peace and prosperity held in Tran Quoc pagoda on occasion of 60th anniversary of Hanoi’s liberation Day …

In the year 2014, the committee inaugurated its northern office at Quan Su pagoda for a better networking with its sub-committees in northern provinces and cities, and tested the running of its official website.

 Venerable Thích Tâm Hải read the committee’s draft annual report at the conference.

For the program of activities this year, Venerable Thích Thọ Lạc briefly introduced the committee’s four major projects to be implemented in 2015. Accordingly, the committee will organize exhibitions and seminars on Buddhist dresses, architecture, languages of Vietnam and the preservation of Buddhist cultural heritages in Vietnam.
