Catholics in Quang Ninh province’s Quang Yen district proactively join in patriotic movement

Quang Yen district in Quang Ninh province has currently two Catholic parishes of Yen Tri and Song Khoai with over 15,000 members.

Over the past years, Catholics in the district have well observed the Party and State’s guidelines and policies, as well as proactively joint in patriotic movements.

Hiep Hoa commune has the largest number of Catholics in Quang Yen district, accounting for 50% the commune population. Every year, Catholic households in the commune have registered and implemented emulation contents for creating civilized lifestyles in marriage, funerals, festivals, as well as the peaceful parish, cultural family, etc.

In the building new-style rural movement, in order to meet standards for new-style rural areas in regards to local environment and rural roads, local Catholics have actively participated in embellishing houses, yards, gardens, and renovating surrounding walls, planting flowers, trees, making gates, etc.

Up to now, more than 250 households in the commune have been recognized as cultural families and 80 households have built a garden model, contributing to help Hiep Hoa commune to meet the new rural standards. In the election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term, parishioners in the commune enthusiastically participated with the voter turnout rate reaching 99.96%.

Over the past years, lay Catholics in Quang Yen district have proactively responded to socio-economic development movements launched by local authorities. Typically, Catholics of Song Khoai parish have converted 100 fields into large – scale rice fields with a total area of 9,6 ha, with an output of 7 tons per ha each crop.

Parishioners in Tranh Giang sub-parish (Quang Yen ward) have received bank loans for building large-capacity ships and buying fishing equipment, set up business  groups for mutual assistance in providing services at sea or offshore fishing, etc.

The parishes have also established promotion funds with the total value of hundreds of millions of VND in order to encourage and reward children with high school results. Typically, the pastoral council of Yen Tri parish and family lines in the commune regularly sponsors over 20 poor students and have established a promotion fund. In addition, they have actively joined in social, charitable activities in the locality, contributed hundreds of millions VND to the funds for the poor, the children, etc.
