Catholics in Nghe An province’s Nghia Dan district make practical contributions for rural development

Nghia Dan district in Nghe An province has five parishes, 13 sub-parishes with over 11,000 Catholic followers, accounting for about 7.9% of the district population, and mainly residing in five communes of Nghia Loc, Nghia An, Nghia Trung, Nghia Hoi and Nghia Dan.

Over the past years, Catholics in Nghia Dan district have actively joint social movements and programs launched by local authorities for socio-economic development in the locality.
In response the campaign motivating people to develop a new-style rural development in residential areas, local Catholics have voluntarily donated thousands square meters of land, fences and working days, and contributed about 20 billion VND for building rural roads, canals and upgrading cultural centers in the local communes. Up to now, three communes of Nghia Hoi, Nghia Trung and Nghia An have achieved standards of new rural areas.
A cultural center in Nghia Loc completed with practical contributions of local Catholic followers
According to Head of Con Ca village in Nghia Loc commune Nguyễn Thái Hoàng, in 2021, Catholic followers in the village have contributed over 200 million VND for building one kilometer of rural road, upgrading canals and completing a cultural center with 3 volleyball playgrounds.
Nghia Trung commune has two sub-parishes with 145 Catholic households mainly residing in Trung Thanh village and village 4. Over the past years, local Catholics have voluntarily donated land, money and working days for building rural facilities in the locality. Especially, Catholic family of Mr. Lê Quang Lưu has donated land and contributed 1.2 million VND and working days for expanding three kilometers of concrete roads.
