For the past years, Catholics in Khanh Hoa province have proactively participated in social movements launched by local authorities, contributing to the socio-economic development in the locality.
In response the campaign motivating people to develop a new-style rural development in residential areas, many Catholics in the parishes of Ba Lang (NHa Trang city), Hoa Yen (Cam Lam district), etc have voluntarily made donations of land and contributions for building rural infrastructure and local transport system.
Besides, local Catholics also proactively joined in charitable activities in the locality. Nha Trang diocese established Mau Tam clinic in Vinh Trung commune, Nha Trang city for offering health-checks and treatments to local residents, especially the poor. Up to now, more than 7,000 people have been given medical examinations and provided medicines. The diocese also provided foods for hundreds of people with disabilities, presented scholarships to 85 pupils whose families are affected by HIV/AIDS, and three charity houses to three families in Cam Tam commune, Cam Lam district, etc.
In addition, Catholic congregations in the province have expanded their social charitable activities by building charity centers, presenting scholarships to pupils, providing free meals, etc. Typically, the Lovers of Holy Cross of Nha Trang congregation has built three charity centers for looking after 250 orphans and people with disabilities. The Congregation of Immaculate Heart of Mary organized charity classes for hundreds of children and presented scholarships to poor pupils. Phu Nhon parish (Cam Ranh city) built a charity called Dai An for raising 40 orphans.
