For the past years, Catholic followers in Hanoi have proactively participated in programs and movements launched by the municipal authorities for improving the cultural and material life and promoting sustainable development in the city.
In response to the movement for new rural and urban development, Catholics in the city have closely worked with local authorities for meeting national targets on new rural and urban development. In particular, 40 Catholic households in Dai Bang Catholic community in Dong Anh district voluntarily contributed over 2,000 square meters of land and over VND 150 billion for construction of two village concrete roads with 1,650 m long and nine meters wide.
Parishioners in Hanoi have also proactively engaged in activities for environmental protection and climate change adaptation. Catholic communities in the city have signed commitments to implement activities practical to the protection of the environment in each locality. Catholics in Thuong Thuy parish in Tay Ho district have pledged to save fresh water in families and public places, limit the use of plastic bags, do the rubbish sorting, take care of green trees and clean public places in the locality every Saturday. Catholics from Cham Ha community in Phu Xuyen district have committed to discharge waste conscientiously and do the cleaning of surrounding places weekly, etc.
