Catholics in Cu Kuin actively engage in social, charitable activities

Cu Kuin District in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak is currently home to over 33,000 Catholic followers, accounting for 30% of the district population, with nine parishes and three independent Catholic communities.

For the past years Catholics in the district have actively engaged in social, charitable activities, practically contributing to social movements launched by state authorities for socio-economic development in the locality.  

With compassion and love, followers of Catholism in the district have contributed 1.5 billion VND, 20 cows and 10 wheelchairs to the charity funds, including the fund for the poor, the fund for victims of dioxin and agent orange, and the fund for disadvantaged children and victims of natural calamities.

The district Catholics have also provided support for the construction and repair of 58 houses, worth over 1.2 billion VND.

In particular, Kim Phat Parish in Hoa Hiep commune has contributed over 1.08 billion VND to the construction of 36 houses for the poor in the two villages of Ea Tla and Hra Ninh in the district’s Dray Bhang commune and the three villages of Moi, Kim Phat and Hiep Tan in Hoa Hiep commune of Cu Kuin district.

Since 2017, the family of Catholic follower Bui Viet De in Kim Chau parish has successfully raised funds amongst relatives and friends for presenting 1,200 packets of support to disadvantaged families worth VND 320 million; the family of Catholic Vũ Quốc Khanh in Kim Phat parish and his relatives has lent assistance to the poor worth over 145 million through the presentation of 300 gift packets.

In addition, given supports from Catholics followers, the parish councils in the district often pay charity visits to people with disadvantages during traditional and religious festivals.

For social contributions, Catholic people in the district have also actively engaged in social programs and movements launched in the locality. Families in parishes of Kim Phat, Dong Son, Giang Son and Kim Thanh Catholic community have donated over 10,000 m2 of land and ten billion VND for building the local transport system.

In Kim Chau parish in Dray Bhang commune, parishioners have donated land and 5.1 billion VND for constructing 8.4 km of the inter-village concrete-road system. Parishioners of Vinh Hoa in Ea Ktur commune and Tan Hoa in Ea Tieu commune have also made practical contributions for enlarging and concretizing inter-village roads.

Additionally, over the past years Catholic followers in many localities in the district proactively participated in the construction of water canals and community centers initiated by local authorities through practical contributions of land, free working days, etc.
