Catholics in Bui Chu diocese cast ballots in national elections

On May 23, Catholic dignitaries and followers of Bui Chu diocese flocked to cast their ballot to elect deputies to the 15th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure at the Polling Station No.1 in Xuan Ngoc commune, Nam Dinh province’s Xuan Truong district.   

Attending the opening ceremony held at the Polling Station No.1 included Secretary of Xuan Truong district Party’s Committee cum Chairman of the district People’s Council Bùi Văn Hảo, Bishop of Bui Chu diocese Toma Vũ Đình Hiệu, representatives from the local authorities, priests, clergies and parishioners of Bui Chu diocese.

Catholics of Bui Chu diocese cast their ballots

Talking to the press after casting his vote, Bishop Thomas Vũ Đình Hiệu said Bui Chu diocese has encouraged local Catholics to fulfil their civic obligations, as well as exercise their civic right and duty toward the national election.

According to Chairman of Xuan Ngoc commune People’s Committee Đỗ Anh Vương, Xuan Ngoc commune is home to 8,500 people, of which 92% of the commune population are Catholics. During the election preparation work, local authorities have closely worked with Bui Chu diocese for enhancing the communication work amongst Catholic followers in Xuan Ngoc in particular and Bui Chu diocese in general.
