Catholic solidarity committee in Vinh Long holds 5th general meeting

The Committee for solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics (CSVC) in Vinh Long province held on July 25 the 5th general meeting of Catholics and their contributions to national construction and defense.

The event elected 43 members to the CSVC in the province for the 2018 – 2023 tenure with Priest Joseph Lưu Văn Minh reelected as the committee chairman.

According to the meeting report, Catholic followers in the province have proactively engaged in social movements launched by local authorities and contributed over VND 21 billion to charity activities in the past five years, as well as built and repaired over 200 houses for the poor people in the province worth over VND 4 billion.

The typical models for social charities in the province included the humanitarian clinic of Vinh Long Church cathedral and Tuong Loc church, free class opened by the Congregation of Lovers of the Holy Cross, the centre for elderly people established by  the Congregation of Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, the free vocational training centre branch of Dong Thuan Vocational Training centre.

In addition, 212 Catholic-concentrated residential have been recognized as “cultural residential area”  and 98% Catholic households have been presented with the cultural family title.
