The 7th congress of Vietnamese Catholics in Nghe An provincial city of Vinh was successfully held by the city committee for solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics on October 2.
Attending the congress were 80 Catholics delegates representing 12,000 Catholic followers in the city.
The one-day event elected the 23-member Catholic solidarity committee for the 2017-2022 tenure and selected eight delegates to attend the Catholic congress in Nghe An province which is to be held in October this year.
As reviewed at the congress, Catholic followers in the provincial city have proactively contributed to movements launched by local authorities for socio-economic development in the locality, including contributions of VND 7.1 billion and 8,000 m2 of land for improving the cultural infrastructure, construction of 5 km of concrete roads, and social charities worth VND 1.8 billion, with Catholic communities of Trung My, My Hau, Vinh MY, Vinh Giang, etc, as typical examples.
