The Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics (CSVC) in Tay Ninh province city held its 5th congress of the Catholics for national construction and defense on October 12.
The event saw the participation of Priest Joseph Vice President of the CSVC Phan Khắc Từ and about 130 delegates representing Catholic followers in the province.
Local guests at the event included Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee Nguyễn Minh Tâm and Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Huỳnh Văn Quang.
The one-day congress discussed results of the patriotic movement and the solidarity committee’s activities during the 4th term (2012-2017) as well as outlined plans of activities in the next term.
As reported at the event, Catholic followers in the province have proactively engaged in social movements launched by local authorities and contributed over VND four billion to build charitable houses.
The congress elected 53 members to the CSCV in the province for the 2017 – 2022 tenure with Priest John Võ Hoàn Sinh reelected as the Committee Chairman.
Addressing at the event, Chairman Huỳnh Văn Quang spoke highly of practical contributions made by the provincial CSVC over the past term as well as stressed the CSVC’s role in encouraging Catholic followers to proactively participate in social movements in the locality.
