Catholic solidarity committee in Soc Trang convenes 6th general meeting

300 Catholic delegates have participated in the 6th general meeting of the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics in the Southwestern province of Soc Trang held on September 26.

The one-day event elected 63 members to the provincial committee for Catholic for the 2017-2022 tenure with Priest Mathew Trần Văn Liên reselected and the committee chairman.

As reported at the meeting, Catholic communities in Soc Trang contributed financial supports and labors for digging 120 wells, upgrading and newly building 30km of local roads and bridges, with a contributing value of over two VND billion in the last five years.

In addition, local Catholics also contributed over 22 VND billion for repairing and constructing 173 charity houses for the poor, donated 150 tons of rice to the charitable ‘loving rice’ program, and sent supports of victims of natural calamities worth about two VND billion.

Seven groups and 15 individuals have been presented with certificates of merit from the provincial authorities during the event for their outstanding contributions to social movements and programs launched in the locality.
